Nursing Home Abuse

PERSONAL REPRESENTATION… THAT’S OUR PROMISE!

At the Law Firm of Flora Templeton Stuart we understand the devastation to families if a loved one in a nursing home is abused. We practice law to make a difference in the lives of our clients and consult personally with nursing home abuse victims and their families. The first consultation is free and we are not paid unless there is a recovery.

Watch for signs of abuse or neglect that may be occurring. Any one of the following warrants an investigation:

  • Bedsores or skin rash
  • Urine or feces odor
  • Falls resulting from inadequate precautions or assistance
  • Skin tears, bruises
  • Contusions or lesions
  • Bone fractures
  • Significant weight loss, or
  • Dehydration

If you suspect the abuse of a loved one in a nursing home facility, report the abuse immediately to your local Cabinet for Families and Children, Department of Protection and Permanency. Retain an attorney who handles nursing home abuse cases. The attorney should immediately obtain copies of all records from the nursing home and perform a complete investigation. Our law firm will leave no stone unturned.

What can I do if I suspect nursing home abuse?

Immediately contact the Cabinet for Families and Children, Department of Protection and Permanency, get copies of all records for your loved one who has been abused, make a list of all witnesses with names, phone numbers, and addresses; in particularly employees of the nursing home, and take photographs.

When must a claim be filed?

Personal injury cases in Kentucky must be filed within one year of the date of the alleged abuse and/or the injury sustained. Time is of the essence in reporting these cases and in obtaining a lawyer.
